Because of the White Blackbirds interview zines I did, writer and educator Chanel Dubofsky interviewed me for her blog series The Marriage Project. The other women interviewed for the project have talked about why they got married, and there seems to be as varied a response as there was from the women I interviewed for my zines, who talked about why they won’t. On her blog Chanel writes that this interview with me marks a transition in her project, which will now include interviews with THE UNMARRIED. Woo hoo!
In my Q&A I talk about my extremely irritable feelings toward the wedding “industry,” the pressure many young women are made to feel to pair off — AND QUICK! — and a beautiful but disappointing antiquarian book I found at a thrift store called The Spinster Book (1909). I was pretty honest here and it wasn’t easy for me to say all of these things, which meant, of course, that it felt great to do so. Thanks again for asking, Chanel. You all should go have a look at her beautiful blog.
